The DOJ’s order comes just as President Trump has halted enforcement of a key anti-bribery law – the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
It’s officially open season for corruption in America.
Mayor Adams has been cozying up to the Trump administration in recent months, having private meetings and attending his inauguration after a last-minute invitation.
Adams recently issued a directive to top New York City officials: don't criticize President Trump, don't interfere with immigration enforcement, and trust the mayor.
This directly contradicts New York's sanctuary city status – meaning Adams is ordering his police forces to violate the law – and raises serious questions about Adams' motivations.
The Justice Department's statement directing prosecutors to drop the case aligns with Mayor Adams' own messaging — they said he needs to "devote full attention and resources to the illegal immigration and violent crime" issues in New York City.
And in parallel to (or because of?) the Adams case, Trump has taken the extraordinary step of ordering a halt to the enforcement of the FCPA. Trump claims this move will "mean a lot more business for America."
In reality, it opens the floodgates for more corruption.
